Barcelona with Children

Many clients ask us this question; "how child-friendly is Barcelona and what activities or places can your babysitters take our kids to?"

The answer is easy: very child-friendly and sooooo many things to do!

Getting around

Let's start with the practical side of things. Getting around in Barcelona easy and stroller friendly. All subway stations have elevators and buses allow you to take strollers on without folding them. Black and yellow taxis are all over the city, so that's an easy option too.

For those of you who want to see everything by foot: it's definitely doable, but have in mind that Barcelona is situated on a hill, so lots of walking up or down and sometimes (visiting Parc Guëll for example), the hill gets very high and steep! A great thing to do is walk from Parc Guëll down to La Rambla or even all the way to the beach. You will pass by the beautiful passeo de Gracia and its amazing architecture.

Our favorite places to take children

Gracia

If you'd like to escape the busy and crowded city center, plan a day to visit the Gracia neigborhood. It's small streets and many squares are great for children to discover, eat ice cream, listen to live music and play. Make sure you pass by "plaza de la Vila de Gracia", "plaza de la Virreina" and "plaza de la revolucion". At least, those are some of our favorites! A hidden gem and well-kept secret around here is a beautiful store with a lovely little backyard called "Olokuti" (C. Asturies 36).

Have in mind: people still tend to do siesta here, so make sure you go before 2pm or after 5pm.

Piscina torre de les aigues

Wonderful for a couple of hours on a hot afternoon; an old water tower that has been transformed into a kiddy-pool. This is a great option if you have little children and want something less crowded and closer to the city center than the beach. (Carrer de Roger de Llúria, 56)

Tibidabo

The view on the top of this hill is our absolute favorite. You might think "it's so far and hard to get", but it's totally worth the trip! And for toddlers who love vehicles, the trip is better than the actual amusement park, as you'd first have to take a train, then tram and then a funicular. Perfect recipe for a succesful day with your little ones!!
